Reported by on 10/7/18

October 7, 2018

Dear Brooks Families,

Happy October! This month brings more wonderful community activities including the “Daddy Daughter” Dance, Walk to School Day, Trunk or Treat and the IPEF 5K/Half Marathon. Please join us for the activities that naturally bring our families together! Recently, dozens of families joined me and several teachers for Chick-Fil-A Night. Food, fun and community were the themes of the evening!

Remember - NO SCHOOL on Monday, October 8 in recognition of Columbus Day!

Please see separate email sent on 10/7

Walk to School Day
Wednesday, October 10 is National Walk to School Day and is sponsored by the Brooks PTA. Exercise has been shown to boost memory and also reduce the risk of obesity and depression. Let’s encourage our children to adopt a healthy lifestyle by showing them that activity can be fun! Walk to school on October 10th! Prizes will be given at the door! Students who are able to participate will be meeting on the back playground between 8:50-9:10. School will start at 9:15 (late start day).

Pizza Hut Book It Reading Program
Brooks school is once again participating in the Pizza Hut Book It Program. Each month, from October to March, your child can record how many days they meet their grade level minute goal. Please have your child color in the calendar for those days they read their goal minutes. When they have met their total goal, they can return their completed calendar to the LMC. All student who return a signed form will receive a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. Please make sure your child’s first and last name and class are written neatly on the paper, along with an adult’s signature.
October Reading Logs are due by Friday, November 2, 2018.

Parent Teacher Conferences
Fall Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Nov. 1 from 4:30-8:00 and Nov. 5 from 8:00-3:00 and 4:30-8:00. We will be using Power PTC, which is an online system for sign up. Last year, many of you will remember this system and it’s numerous challenges. GREAT NEWS - Power PTC listened to the district’s concerns and the process will be much easier for our families and staff. Parents/Guardians will access the conference sign up right through their Home Access account. Therefore, it is critical you have your Home Access log in information readily available. Parent sign up will begin on Oct. 15 and specific instructions will be forthcoming.

TEAM BROOKS - a team of staff members and Brooks parents will be running a 5K or half marathon to support the Indian Prairie Education Foundation on Sunday, October 21 at 7am. Half of our fundraising efforts come right back to Brooks School. Last year, we were able fund the wildly popular Tim Hanig Pro Kids Show, purchase a new rug for the music room and add multiple activities and resources to our Thinker/Maker space in the LMC. What we need YOU for, costs nothing! Please consider saving the date and coming out to support TEAM BROOKS. I can personally say that seeing a familiar face or hearing some cheers along the VERY LONG route makes all the difference in the world! YOU help us finish. As time gets closer, more specific information/locations will be provided. Thank you for considering SAVING THE DATE!

PAWS for Tales
Our partnership with the Naperville Humane Society and the PAWS for Tales program will continue on Fridays starting at the end of September. This wildly successful program allows our students to read to therapy/rescue dogs. In order to participate, your child must have a release on file. Please fill out the attached Google Form for each Brooks Tiger in your family to grant permission to participate.
