Official Press Release: Mix It Up Day

Reported by on 10/17/18

Brooks Participates in Mix It Up at Lunch Day!

On Tuesday, October 23, Brooks Elementary will be joining more than one million other students across the country and around the world to help break down social barriers in a safe, supported environment by participating in the annual Mix It Up at Lunch Day.

The event, launched by the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Teaching Tolerance project in 2002, encourages students to sit with someone new in the cafeteria for one day. This in turn helps them to meet new people, be part of our welcoming school community, and perhaps even make a new friend!

Plans include teachers facilitating “mixing up” students in the lunchroom and at recess, as well as planning a fun community-building activity too. Be sure to ask your child who he or she “mixed it up” with on October 23!
