Principal's Message 10/28/18
October 28, 2018
Dear Brooks Families,
The community opportunities that continue at Brooks are simply remarkable. Thank you to Mrs. Linduska for organizing Trunk or Treat. The evening was absolutely perfect. We had hundreds of students and families dressed in their Halloween costumes, enjoying the trunk decorations, getting candy and enjoying time with classmates and neighbors. The perfect weather and gorgeous orange colored full moon, provided a beautiful backdrop for a great night!
Thank you to our parent volunteers who supported Mix It Up Day! Students sat with classmates they may not normally sit with and did an activity to get to know their classmates better. Students had a great time finding out more about their friends and even learned a variety of topics they have in common!
Parent Teacher Conferences
Fall Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Nov. 1 from 4:30-8:00 and Nov. 5 from 8:00-3:00 and 4:30-8:00. Power PTC is now closed. If you did not sign up for your child’s conference, please contact your child’s teacher directly.
Climate Survey - We Need Your Feedback
Parents, students and teachers across Illinois will once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school.
To take this short survey:
1. Visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/
2. Type and select “Dupage” as "County." (The county is the location of the school district's main office.)
3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including test score gains. Research has shown that schools strong on these indicators are ten times more likely to improve student learning. The five indicators that effect school success are effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction.
Parents will have until January to participate in the survey.
Coffee Connect - Save the Date
Please mark your calendar for Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9:00-10:00 am, for our first ever Coffee Connect. This initiative is being developed collaboratively between myself and Brooks parent, Sejal Patel. Our goal is to bring our parent community together for a simple and informal “Principal Coffee or Tea”. We will highlight how to get involved in school, but also will leave the time open for questions relating to education, Brooks progress and programming, community activities, etc. Please be watching for more specific information on this exciting event!

ON THE RADAR/REMINDERS
Once again, Brooks School will be partnering with Gift Mart Wheatland Community in holding a toy drive to benefit under resourced children in Indian Prairie School District 204! These families come from households in financial stress whom may not otherwise be able to afford gifts for the holidays.
Gift Mart is a program that provides families who qualify with a “hand up” during the holiday season. By invitation parents and guardians are invited to a toyshop where they can purchase new toys for only $2.00 per toy. 100% of the proceeds made from the sale of each toy will be donated back to each invited school to fund much needed resources.
Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy values@ $20 that is safe for children ages 6-12. No stuffed animals or board games, please. There will be a GiftMart toy box located inside of the school from November 12th – December 7th.
Thank you for your generosity and participation!
