Dear Brooks Families,

Happy Weekend! A huge thank you to Sejal Patel for helping to organize our first ever Coffee Connect Principal Coffee/Tea. Thank you to all our families and teachers who attended. We had a wonderful turnout for our first event! The community building that occurred within one hour was astounding and the sharing of ideas was valuable. Please be watching for a separate communication, highlighting our next steps from this event!!

MUST READ

Winter Weather/Recess
As the weather shifts to winter, it’s important to make sure our students are prepared for the cold temperatures. Please make sure your child wears a coat to school and has hats/gloves/boots available when needed. As per district policy, our students will go out for a short recess if the temperature and/or wind chill is above 5 degrees and the playground conditions are acceptable. If your family needs assistance with warm winter wear, please call or email me (630-375-3200 or terri_russell@ipsd.org). Your call will be confidential and your child’s needs will be met.

Gift Mart - LAST CALL !!
Once again, Brooks School will be partnering with Gift Mart Wheatland Community in holding a toy drive to benefit under resourced children in Indian Prairie School District 204! These families come from households in financial stress whom may not otherwise be able to afford gifts for the holidays.
Gift Mart is a program that provides families who qualify with a “hand up” during the holiday season. By invitation parents and guardians are invited to a toyshop where they can purchase new toys for only $2.00 per toy. 100% of the proceeds made from the sale of each toy will be donated back to each invited school to fund much needed resources.
Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy values@ $20 that is safe for children ages 6-12. No stuffed animals or board games, please. There will be a GiftMart toy box located inside of the school from November 12th – December 7th.
Thank you for your generosity and participation!

All student who return a signed form will receive a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. Please make sure your child’s first and last name and class are written neatly on the paper, along with an adult’s signature.

December Reading Logs are due by Wednesday, January 9, 2019

Vacations
This is the time of year when many of our families take extended vacations. Please contact the school office at 630-375-3200 x3 to report your child’s absence. Please keep in mind, as per district policy, homework will not be provided in advance. When your child returns, the necessary work, along with a reasonable “make-up timeframe” will be given. Thank you for your understanding.

ON THE RADAR/REMINDERS

Climate Survey - We Need Your Feedback
Parents, students and teachers across Illinois will once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school.
To take this short survey:
1. Visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/
2. Type and select “Dupage” as "County." (The county is the location of the school district's main office.)
3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including test score gains. Research has shown that schools strong on these indicators are ten times more likely to improve student learning. The five indicators that affect school success are effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction.
Parents will have until January to participate in the survey.
