Principal's Message 2/3/19
February 3, 2019
Dear Brooks Families,
Happy Super Bowl Sunday! I hope you are enjoying this “warm” weekend! It sure feels good to be outside. I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to a full week of school ahead, with structure and routine!
Chipotle Family Dinner Night Rescheduled
Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, February 12 for Brooks Family Dinner Night at Chipotle, located at 848 N. Route 59. Bring your flyer (attached) between the hours of 4:00-8:00 p.m. and 33% of the proceeds will go right back to Brooks School. Please join Mrs. Russell for dinner at 5:00!!!! I’d love to see you all there. Let’s fill Chipotle like never before! Again, the flyer is attached for your convenience. Thank you to Sejal Patel for organizing and rescheduling this event.
Student Council Message
It’s that time of year to show our classmates, friends and teachers how special they are. Please see the attached directions and Valentine Gram form. Please know, we have a mechanism in place to make sure EVERY child receives a Valentine Gram.
Student Council is still in need of parent volunteers to help with the sale of Valentine Grams on February 4, 5, and 6. If you are interested, please sign up through the link.
Science Fair Information Night
Is your child interested in the upcoming Science Fair? Is your child participating, but you have some questions? Please join Maggie Stauffer on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7:00 in the multi-purpose room for an informal question/answer session. The actual Science Fair will be held on Tuesday, February 26.
Classroom Valentine Exchange - Feb. 14
On February 14, our students will participate in a teacher planned Valentine Exchange. I know many of you may already be purchasing Valentine cards. If so, please review the following guidelines.
1. If your child chooses to participate, he/she should include a Valentine for EVERY classmate. No child should be left out.
2. Due to food allergies and health needs, we highly recommend a CARD ONLY. However, we recognize that many Valentines now come with candy as part of the card (in other words, a lollipop or candy heart). You may send those valentines with your child. If you choose to attach something to your card, please consider a NON-EDIBLE treat such as a pencil, eraser or Valentine sticker/tattoo.
3. NO peanut products, homemade goods or goodie bags are allowed.
4. ALL Valentines will be collected in a collection box/bag and sent home. NO CANDY will be eaten at school.
Everyone's cooperation in following health/safety rules will allow us to have a fun and safe Valentine Exchange.
Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences
Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, February 28 from 1:00-8:00 pm (this is not a student attendance day). Spring conferences are on an “as needed” basis. If the teacher is requesting a conference, parents/guardians will be notified on or before February 11. If you want to request a conference, please contact your child’s teacher by February 15.
ON THE RADAR/REMINDERS
Climate Survey - We Need Your Feedback
Parents, students and teachers across Illinois will once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school.
To take this short survey:
1. Visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/
2. Type and select “Dupage” as "County." (The county is the location of the school district's main office.)
3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including test score gains. Research has shown that schools strong on these indicators are ten times more likely to improve student learning. The five indicators that affect school success are effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction.
Parents will have until January to participate in the survey.
