Classroom Valentine Exchange - Feb. 14
On February 14, our students will participate in a teacher planned Valentine Exchange. I know many of you may already be purchasing Valentine cards. If so, please review the following guidelines.
1. If your child chooses to participate, he/she should include a Valentine for EVERY classmate. No child should be left out.
2. Due to food allergies and health needs, we highly recommend a CARD ONLY. However, we recognize that many Valentines now come with candy as part of the card (in other words, a lollipop or candy heart). You may send those valentines with your child. If you choose to attach something to your card, please consider a NON-EDIBLE treat such as a pencil, eraser or Valentine sticker/tattoo.
3. NO peanut products, homemade goods or goodie bags are allowed.
4. ALL Valentines will be collected in a collection box/bag and sent home. NO CANDY will be eaten at school.

Everyone's cooperation in following health/safety rules will allow us to have a fun and safe Valentine Exchange.

Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences
Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, February 28 from 1:00-8:00 pm (this is not a student attendance day). Spring conferences are on an “as needed” basis. If the teacher is requesting a conference, parents/guardians will be notified on or before February 11. If you want to request a conference, please contact your child’s teacher by February 15.

Kindergarten for the 2019-2020 School Year
If you have a child who will be five (5) years old on or before September 1, 2019, he or she is eligible to enroll in kindergarten for the 2019-20 school year.*

You are invited and encouraged to attend a Kindergarten Parent Preview Night on March 13, 2019 at Brooks Elementary in the Gym. At this meeting, we will provide a detailed look at what the kindergarten experience will offer. You will also be provided with more details related to registration requirements and deadlines. This night is designed for parents and guardians only.
We need the Information Sheet on the attached page prior to orientation so that we can begin planning kindergarten enrollment for the upcoming school year. This information will be used to form a kindergarten mailing list. Once on the mailing list, additional information will be mailed to eligible kindergarten parents. Information regarding registration will be available after April.
If you have any neighbors who do not presently have school-aged children, but will have an incoming kindergartner, please give them a copy of this form or ask them to call our office at 630.375.3200. I look forward to meeting you at the Kindergarten Parent Preview Night.
Please mark your calendars!

Winter Benchmarking Assessments
The district administered curriculum based assessments have recently been completed during our winter benchmarking. National/district comparison percentiles will be uploaded into your child’s Home Access account after Feb. 15. Climate Survey - We Need Your Feedback
Parents, students and teachers across Illinois will once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school.
To take this short survey:
1. Visit
2. Type and select “Dupage” as "County." (The county is the location of the school district's main office.)
3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including test score gains. Research has shown that schools strong on these indicators are ten times more likely to improve student learning. The five indicators that affect school success are effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction.
Parents will have until January to participate in the survey.
