Dear Brooks Families,

I hope this finds your family well and healthy. I continue to be amazed at the resilience of our Brooks Community. Our staff continues to support our families well beyond remote learning and our families are assisting one another. This empathy and compassion for one another is our priority and we are very grateful to all of you. MUST READ

4th Quarter Grades
In staying within state and district guidelines, elementary students will receive feedback on their activities, but NO GRADES will be given for the fourth quarter. I want to assure you that conversations have already begun regarding next fall. Fall assessment data will guide our path to planning. We recognize skill, concept and pacing expectations will need to be adjusted based on our current situation.

Project Arrow/Math Acceleration Qualification for next year’s grades 3-6
Due to our current circumstance, the district has pushed back the qualification/notification process for the Project Arrow and Math Acceleration program for next year. Program notification will occur via email on May 1.

Fifth Grade Farewell
As you know, our typical Fifth Grade Farewell has been cancelled. However, THANK YOU to Lynn Lengemann and Wendi Wipff for their creative planning! Our teachers will proceed by recognizing our fifth graders and their accomplishments via Zoom. The PTA Planning Committee will be providing each of our 5th graders with a gift bag that will recognize our students’ accomplishments. Many logistics are still in the planning stages. We will move forward in a way that adheres to the State Stay At Home Order and prioritizes the health and wellness of ALL our families. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Field Day - May 13
As you know, “at school Field Day” has been cancelled. However, we are going to make the best of an unfortunate situation. Our Specials’ Team has rallied around the concept of providing an alternative. Mr. Persson will be providing fun family games that you can do at home on Wednesday, May 13 (remote learning planning day). You will have the opportunity to forward pictures if you choose. The specials’ team will compile the pictures into a schoolwide video. Stay tuned for more information!!

Kane County Cougars Reading Voucher
We have been asked about the Kane County Cougars Reading Program that many of our students have been participating in. The Cougars have provided a voucher for ALL of our students (attached). However, please understand that participation will be based on the Cougars’ plan for physical distance. You may check the Cougars website at https://www.milb.com/kane-county

How will my student get his or her personal belongings back?
A district task force is working on specific planning for students to get their personal belongings back before the end of the year (personal books, school supplies, pencil boxes, folders, etc) Currently, the tentative plan will be curbside pick up. As you can imagine, there are many logistical plans that need to be made for personal belongings, health office medications and yearbooks. As soon as final plans are made, you will be informed. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

REMINDERS - TENTATIVE PLANNING FOR THE 20-21 SCHOOL YEAR
Despite the uncertain times we currently find ourselves in, the district and school must still prepare for the 20-21 school year. There are 2 topics I want to draw your attention to:

District 204 is moving to a new student information system in June. Therefore, registration for the 20-21 school year will not occur until June. At some point, you will be asked to use Home Access to indicate if you INTEND to return. We will use this information in our planning for next year. Please stay tuned for additional information.
In previous years, I sent home a Parent Input Form for class placements. I thank our families who used this format as it was intended. However, many forms were returned with excessive requests, making it almost impossible for teachers to develop class lists that meet the needs of all children. I have full confidence in our staff to make class recommendations that meet the needs of students. They have a solid knowledge of our students’ academic, social, behavioral and friendship needs. However, if you feel your child’s needs are so significant that you want to provide input, please send an email to terri_russell@ipsd.org with CLASS PLACEMENT in the subject line. This must be received no later than Friday, May 1. Thank you for understanding we will not take teacher requests.

MEALS AVAILABLE TO ALL:
Organic Life is offering curbside pick-up of grab and go breakfast and lunch at no cost for all students. The pickup locations are at each elementary school near door 1, between 11 am and 1 pm, Monday through Friday. If your family needs meals, let us know by completing this form.
This meal service is available to ALL of our families. You simply need to complete the form (attached to the link above). If it is more convenient for you to pick up your meal at another school location, you may do so.
