Grade 5 Prelude
Dear Brooks Fifth-Grade Students & Families,
Music education is a vibrant part of our District 204 curriculum, and although we are currently learning virtually, our students are continuing to flourish in their music classes. Our newest sixth grade band and orchestra students are learning to play in a virtual format and are working on their first performance projects to share with their families. Our older students are also busy performing beautiful music.
Now is the time for our fifth-grade students to think about where they may see themselves in the future. There are many musical offerings for sixth grade, and coming up soon, your child will have an opportunity to register for a band, orchestra, or chorus class. We know that helping students select an instrument that has a sound they like makes a huge difference in their at home practice habits, and this is why learning about the available instruments is an important step in our students’ music education.
The Granger Middle School Music Department teachers are visiting your fifth-grade students on Mondays, so they experience Virtual Prelude. Virtual Prelude is an in-depth study of band and orchestra instruments as well as vocal music. At the end of the unit, students will be given the opportunity to select an appropriate instrument to begin learning in sixth grade as part of the band or orchestra classes and will also learn more about the chorus opportunities. During Virtual Prelude, students are given an introduction to all of the instruments, including strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Students are also listening to the sounds of the instruments and have an opportunity to meet with the middle school music teachers during special Zoom sessions.
We would like to invite you to our Parent Information and Registration Zoom Meeting on “Tuesday, January 26th” at 7:00 p.m. This meeting will give you more information about the Granger Music Program, how to register your student for a performing music class in middle school and answer any questions you may have. This meeting will be run by the Granger Middle School music teachers. Please add this meeting information to your calendar:
