Dear Brooks Families,
Happy New Year!! This is a brief follow up to the message sent out on January 2, with a few important additions! I can’t wait to see your children on Monday!
HELP HELP HELP!!!!
We are looking for volunteers who can shuttle and supervise students during their winter curriculum benchmarking sessions, January 8-12. If you are willing to assist our students, please click on the link below:
More Help Wanted - PAWS for Tales Reading Program
We are searching for 1-2 volunteers for the PAWS for Tales reading program at Brooks. It is the program we call "Furry Fridays" and each week we have therapy dogs sponsored by the Naperville Humane Society come in and read with small groups of students. Volunteers will:
-Commit to coming to Brooks once a month on Friday afternoons from 1:50 - 3:10 pm to facilitate the program.
- Be responsible for helping the therapy dog and his/her parent get settled
-Escort students from their classroom to the therapy area in the LMC for reading.
If you would like to help out with this program, please contact Penny Ose at firstname.lastname@example.org
Parent Survey - We Need YOU!! Please take a few moments to complete the State of Illinois Survey on Brooks School. This information will help us make Brooks the best it can be. Currently, 24% of our families have completed the survey, but our goal is 50%. We can do this! The deadline is January 31.
To take this short survey:
1. Visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/login/.
2. Type and then select Dupage as District 204's County location. This is the county associated with the district, not the location of an individual school.
3. Type your school's name into the School field and then select your school.

Board Message on Attendance Area Adjustments
At the Nov. 27 Board of Education meeting, administrators recommended moving 215 students next year to alleviate overcrowding at Brooks, Brookdale and Peterson elementary schools. We were anticipating voting on this recommendation at the Dec. 11 meeting, but have decided to postpone this vote until Jan. 8. Board members have been meeting individually with administrators to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges surrounding the overcrowding issue. We have also asked administrators for some additional information based on questions raised at the recent Engage 204 meeting. To be more transparent and share the information with the community, the board will hold a workshop at 5 pm on Jan. 8 at the Crouse Education Center. Both the workshop and the meeting will also be streamed live on the district's YouTube channel.
Thank you to the parents who have provided feedback to the Board of Education. We appreciate your continued support.
Recess Reminder - As the weather turns cooler, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. In staying with district procedure, students will go outside if the temperature/wind chill is above 5 degrees. Additionally, playground conditions are taken into account. All research supports the benefit of daily exercise and fresh air, so we want our students prepared for their short outdoor exercise break!
Pop Tab Collection - Brooks School is now collecting pop tabs which will be donated to Ronald McDonald House. The pop tabs are recycled, resulting in a monetary donation back to Ronald McDonald House. This incredible organization provides housing for children and families going through medical challenges. If you would like to save and donate your pop tabs, they may be dropped off in the school office. Thank you!
