Principal's Message 4/22/18

Reported by on 4/22/18

Dear Brooks Families,

I hope you enjoyed the weekend! I’m certain the nice weather is a sign of good things to come!

A tremendous thank you goes to Mrs. Natalie Jordan and all the volunteers who made Cool Cat Press/Cafe possible for our students. This worthwhile program supports our children as they develop an idea into a published book. Students were proud to share their books and musical talents at Cool Cat Cafe.

No More PM Parking at Granger
As you may know, Granger Middle School has allowed us to utilize their parking lot for student drop off and pick up, specifically for those students using the crosswalk. While Granger has been gracious during our arrival and dismissal time, an adjustment needs to occur. Granger is now fully using their front parking lot for PM sports activities. Our car traffic is presenting a safety concern for the students at Granger. Therefore, starting Monday, April 23, Brooks families may no longer use the Granger parking lot in the afternoon. I encourage you to consider the following:

1. Use the car line which is specifically designed for our families picking up their students by car.
2. If your child is using the crosswalk as a “walker”, please feel free to walk to the crosswalk to meet your child for their journey home.
3. If this change requires an adjustment to your child’s dismissal plan, please contact your child’s teacher immediately.

We thank our friends at Granger for historically sharing their parking lot. However, we understand the safety concerns that are now presented due to sports practice. Thank you in advance for selecting an alternate option above and putting student safety first.

From the Health Office
A reminder that all students in K and 2nd grade should submit proof of being examined by a licensed Dentist before May 15th of the current school year in accordance with IPSD 204 policy. You may find a copy of this form on the District Website or at the following link If you have never submitted a Dental Exam for your child, it would also be appreciated if you could forward this to me after your next Dental appointment.

Also a reminder for Current 5th Graders - your child will need a new Physical on file and proof of Immunization against Meningococcal disease for entry into 6th Grade—— (before October 15th of this year). Additionally, if your child is attending a Dental appointment over the Summer, please take the School Dental form with you, as this is required in 6th Grade also.

Bookmobile will be back!
We are excited to announce the Aurora Public Library will return this summer, providing book check out for our students throughout the summer. Because of our wonderful turnout last summer, the Bookmobile has extended its time from 30 to 45 minutes! The Bookmobile will park in the front lot of Brooks School every Tuesday from 1:45-2:30 starting June 5-August 7. The Bookmobile will also offer their summer reading program. Stay tuned for further details, but mark your calendars!!

Chromebook Roll Out - coming in August!
We are proud and excited to announce the district’s continued roll out of one-to-one technology for our students in grades 2-5 for next school year. This year, our 5th grade teachers and students have piloted the use of this tool and have embedded it into our instruction in meaningful and exciting ways. Brooks is providing staff professional development this spring so our teachers/students are ready to hit the ground running in the fall. This initiative will also make our current laptops more available for our students in grades K-1, making it a WIN WIN for all! More information to come!

Kane County Cougar Game - Save the Date!
On Thursday, June 14th, the Brooks Chorus has been invited to sing the National Anthem at the Kane County Cougar Game! Students get to enjoy the game, run the bases, eat good food and enjoy fireworks! More information will be coming from PTA, but in the meantime, mark your calendar!!
