August 19, 2018

Dear Brooks Families,

It was truly wonderful seeing all of our students and families at Teacher Meet and Greet! The enthusiasm and excitement in the building was contagious! A huge thank you to Mrs. Kowal and the PTA for providing a cool treat for our students on a very hot day. Another shout out goes to Mrs. Hochberg for organizing and coordinating the school supply kits. That is a very big endeavor on behalf of our students. If you have any questions about your child’s school supply kit, you may contact Mrs. Hochberg at

Important First Day Information

Tuesday, August 21
First day of school for students in grades 1-5 (students will meet on the blacktop weather permitting)

Kindergarten visitation – see information below

Important: Kindergarten students will not ride the bus to school on Tuesday, August 21. Instead, we invite you to bring your child to kindergarten on the first day for a one hour orientation. This visit will familiarize your child with his/her new classroom, let him/her meet the teacher and will prepare all of our students for their first full day of kindergarten on Wednesday, August 22. In order to make this a special day for you and your kindergartner , we respectfully request no siblings attend. Please plan your visit according to your last name and the schedule listed below.

10:00-11:00 A-L
1:30-2:30 M-Z

Getting over 650 students to and from the right locations at arrival and dismissal is a deliberate and strategic endeavor! Last year, we utilized parent volunteers, along with staff members to create a smooth and seamless process! We are once again looking for volunteers who may be able to help us with arrival and dismissal (bus and car line) for the first several days of school. Your job description is easy:
1. Arrive with excitement and a smile!
2. Arrive at 8:40 (for AM help) and 3:15 (for PM help) - Wednesday is an 8:50 AM arrival
3. Be ready to escort students to their lines and locations (we will help with that!!)
4. You MAY bring your children with you in the morning.

Bus Service First Week
Thank you for your patience as the new year begins. By now, you should have used Home Access to determine your child’s bus number, stop location and drop off/pick up times. If you have not done that, please use your Home Access Account to determine that information BEFORE the first day of school. The district asks that your child be at the assigned stop 5 minutes before pick up. However, keep in mind that bus routes may be running late the first few days as drivers perfect their routes and get students safely seated. In addition, our bus dismissal will be very slow and deliberate the first week to get students to the right location. Please know that afternoon drop off will most likely be delayed until we are comfortable speeding up the process. Again, thank you for being patient!

PD Wednesdays (Late Start)
School will start at 9:15 with doors opening for student arrival at 9:00. AM bus routes will remain the same, with pick up approximately 10 minutes later (see district site for Wednesday pick up times). Dismissal time remains the same and buses run their regular routes.

Curriculum Night Save the Date
Please mark your calendar for Thursday, September 20 from 6:00-7:35 pm. Each teacher will give a short presentation regarding your child’s day, the curriculum and technology integration. The format and structure of this evening is for parents only. Children should not attend. Thank you for booking your babysitter early!

Registration Paperwork
We need all registration materials returned before the first day of school.
