Brooks End Of July Updates
Dear Brooks Families,
After what we have been through the last 15+ months, I can’t tell you how excited we are to welcome back all of our students to in person learning. We look forward to reconnecting with our community and re-establishing the events and activities that make Brooks such an amazing school community. As we start the year, here is some important information that may help you with your planning:
Health and Safety
As per Dr. Talley’s email on 7/27, our district continues to monitor Covid numbers as related to school opening safety measures. As soon as we have final guidance, you will be informed. Therefore, please know the information below is tentative.
Class Placement – Parents will be able to access classroom assignments on Friday, August 13, after 4:00, using ParentVue. This is the same system you used to register your child.
Important First Day Information:
Thursday, August 19 First day of school for students in grades 1-5
Kindergarten visitation – see information below
** Important Save the Date: Kindergarten students will not ride the bus to school on Thursday, August 19. Instead, we invite you to bring your child to kindergarten on the first day for an orientation specific to our Kindergarten students. This visit will familiarize your child with his/her new classroom, let him/her meet the teacher and will prepare all of our students for their first full day of kindergarten on Friday, August 20. In order to make this a special day for you and your kindergartner , we respectfully request no siblings attend.
In order to reduce the number of families in our Kindergarten rooms at one time, we are utilizing final class rosters to assign specific orientation times. Therefore, your specific orientation time will not be known until after August 13 when class rosters are published. You will receive a specific correspondence from the classroom teacher with your assigned orientation time. Thank you for your patience and understanding
Bus Routes – On August 13, you may access your child’s stop information in ParentVue. Go to the Student Information tab, then scroll down to transportation. State law requires all students wear masks on the bus.
Please note: Route change requests should be addressed to the school office. In conjunction with the district transportation department, a decision will be made based on safety. Route changes will not occur for convenience or having your child “in view”. After school begins, route changes will not be made until after the third week of school unless there is a safety concern.
PD Wednesdays: School will start at 9:15 with doors opening for student arrival at 9:00. AM bus routes will remain the same, with pick up approximately 10 minutes later. Dismissal time remains the same and buses run their regular routes.
Communication between home and school is critical. All office correspondence will occur through e-mail, phone calls and the school web-site. In order to receive school e-mails and phone calls, it’s crucial for you to update your ParentVue account with current information— phone numbers and e-mail addresses.
School Lunch Program: District 204’s hot lunch vendor is Organiclife. All students will be eligible for a free “grab and go” lunch each day. However, students will be charged for any a la carte items taken, such as extra milk (not taken with a meal). Menus may be found at: https://ipsd.nutrislice.com/menu/
New Family Self Guided Tour:
We welcome all our new families and kindergarten families to our optional “Self Guided Tour” on Thursday, August 12 from 9:00-11:00. Please note— you do not need to schedule in advance. Our building will be open for you to view classrooms, specials’ classrooms, the lunchroom, the LMC, etc. An official tour will not be provided, but we welcome you to get our glimpse of our beautiful school!
Teacher Meet and Greet:
We are pleased to announce there will be a Teacher Meet and Greet this year. However, until final schedules are complete for district institute days, we do not know if it will be held on Aug. 16 or 17 in the afternoon (after 2:00). We apologize for the inconvenience, but will notify you ASAP. Our Meet and Greet will have assigned times and will be held outdoors to maximize social distancing.
This is the only opportunity for teachers to be available to meet their students prior to the start of school. Please keep in mind, this is a fun event for the children. It is not to be used as a time to conference with teachers. Thank you for your understanding, as we want to provide an opportunity for ALL students to meet their teachers. You are welcome to bring your child’s school supplies on that day.
Reminder: We need all registration materials returned before the first day of school.
