Volunteer of the Year
District 204, the Indian Prairie Parents’ Council, and GreenState Credit Union Honor Outstanding Volunteers
District 204, the Indian Prairie Parents’ Council, and GreenState Credit Union are proud to recognize Michael Jackson of Brooks Elementary, Garima Syngol of Granger Middle School, and Kelly King of Waubonsie Valley High School as the second semester IPSD GIVE Award recipients. The program is sponsored by GreenState Credit Union and celebrates outstanding volunteers for their meaningful impact across IPSD schools. In addition, Michael Jackson has been named the district's Volunteer of the Year for his exceptional leadership across multiple buildings.
Michael Jackson has served as the Brooks PTA President, working with a great team to host everything from family fun fairs to school dances. While he's proud of keeping the organization financially healthy so it can support vital student resources, his favorite achievement was leading the creation of the school's outdoor classroom. Now, Michael is stepping into new leadership roles at Granger Middle School, Metea Valley High School, and the IPPC executive board. He loves leading by example for his kids and truly believes volunteering is the best way to give back, share fresh ideas across the district, and make a lasting impact on the community.
Garima Syngol's volunteering journey began in 2009 when she visited her son’s preschool classroom to read a story. What started as a simple gesture quickly evolved into a deeply meaningful, year-long commitment. Since then, she has supported the Brooks Science Fair, volunteered at the STEM School and Metea Valley High School, and served as the Granger Middle School PTA President for the past three years. Guided by the philosophy that a lack of volunteers is a call to action rather than an excuse to walk away, Garima firmly believes that anyone capable of helping should step forward.
Kelly King has been a dedicated district parent since 2002, with a journey that she’s committed to continue until her youngest of five children graduates in 2031. Kelly serves as an instrumental part of the school's fine arts volunteer efforts by supporting the choir, show choir, and various musicals, while also dedicating time to the Warrior Warehouse and Fischer Middle School's musical season. Fueled by a passion to give back to the programs her children love, she deeply enjoys volunteering to catch a small glimpse into her children's world whenever she is in the building.
